Cheraw, SC – A brief but impactful drop in temperatures will bring frost risk to Chesterfield County early Sunday, threatening gardens and sensitive plants during the pre-dawn hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday. Temperatures could fall as low as 33 degrees, with several consecutive hours below 35 degrees creating conditions favorable for frost formation.
Communities including Cheraw and Pageland will see the highest risk in low-lying and rural areas where cooler air settles. While very dry air may limit widespread frost coverage, any prolonged exposure to near-freezing temperatures could still damage early spring vegetation, especially unprotected plants and blooms.
Residents should cover delicate plants or bring them indoors before going to bed Saturday night. Gardeners should focus on protecting exposed vegetation in open fields and valleys where temperatures drop fastest.
Temperatures will warm quickly after 9 a.m. Sunday, reducing the threat, but additional cool mornings remain possible into early next week. More advisories could be issued if overnight conditions stay clear and calm.
