Chester, IL – A local nonprofit is celebrating a major leap into renewable energy with a community event this week in Randolph County.

The Chester Eagles Club will host its “Solar Shindig” on Thursday, July 10th from 5 to 8 p.m. at 402 E. Hacker Street to mark the completion of a solar installation expected to significantly reduce energy costs and environmental impact.

According to organizers, the new ground-mounted array consists of 350 solar panels, generating 192.5 kW of solar power, and was installed by A&I Electrical. The system is projected to save the club approximately $1.3 million over its lifetime. With available state and federal incentives, the project is expected to pay for itself within three years.

Speakers will include Chester Mayor Tom Eggemeyer, Jeremy Gottschammer from the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and A&I Electrical representatives Curt Jeffers and Steven Tanner. The celebration will also feature live music by DirtWater Fox from 6 to 8 p.m., as well as snacks, giveaways and information about solar energy for residents interested in sustainable solutions.

“The Chester Eagles have always focused on supporting our local community,” Gottschammer said. “By investing in solar, we’re not only cutting energy costs but reinvesting those savings into the people and programs that make Chester stronger.”

Tanner, who owns A&I Electrical, added that the project showcases the practical benefits of going solar. “We’re here to help turn incentives into electricity bill savings for residents, businesses, and nonprofits like the Eagles,” he said.

The event is free and open to the public.
