Chester County, SC – A traffic stop conducted Monday led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl and MDMA, culminating in trafficking charges against a Chester County man following a broader narcotics investigation.

According to the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, investigators with the Narcotics Unit stopped a vehicle on December 15, 2025, near South Carolina Highway 9 and the J.A. Cochran Bypass in Chester County. The stop was part of an ongoing drug investigation, officials said.

During the traffic stop, investigators allegedly recovered approximately 8 grams of suspected fentanyl from the vehicle, which was occupied by Cody Cooper, authorities stated.

Later that same day, deputies executed a search warrant at Cooper’s residence on Westbrook Road in Edge Moor, located in northern Chester County near the North Carolina state line. During the search, investigators reportedly seized additional suspected controlled substances, including approximately 11 more grams of suspected fentanyl.

Officials also said suspected MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, along with prescription medications, were recovered during the search of the residence.

As a result of the investigation, Cooper was taken into custody and charged with trafficking fentanyl in the 14–28 gram range, possession of MDMA (ecstasy), and possession with intent to distribute Schedule IV controlled substances.

The Chester County Sheriff’s Office did not release information on Cooper’s bond status or whether additional arrests are expected. Authorities also did not specify how long the investigation had been ongoing prior to Monday’s traffic stop.

Fentanyl continues to be a major focus of narcotics enforcement across South Carolina due to its potency and role in overdose deaths statewide. Law enforcement officials encourage residents to report suspected drug activity to local authorities.

This case remains under investigation.
