Richmond, VA – A strong coastal storm continues to impact eastern Virginia and surrounding areas tonight, bringing moderate to major tidal flooding and powerful wind gusts to the lower Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic coastline.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, water levels remain elevated across tidal rivers and bays, with another round of minor to moderate coastal flooding expected Monday morning. Some localized areas could reach major flood levels before conditions begin to improve.
Gusty winds between 40 and 50 mph will continue through the evening, particularly near the coast and the Virginia–Maryland line. Wind Advisories remain in effect for much of the shoreline, where isolated power outages and travel impacts are possible.
Rainfall totals are expected to stay below one inch, and meteorologists note there is little risk of flash flooding for inland regions. The National Weather Service urges residents in flood-prone zones to monitor local advisories and avoid driving through water-covered roads.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Monday as the storm system moves offshore.
