Cherokee County, GA – As cold temperatures settle into north metro Atlanta tonight, Cherokee County officials are opening an emergency warming station to help residents seeking shelter from the cold.

According to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, local Woodstock-area churches, working in partnership with the Homeless Coalition of Cherokee County, will operate a Cherokee County Area Emergency Warming Station on Monday and Tuesday nights, December 29 and December 30.

The warming station will be located at First Baptist Church Woodstock, at 11905 Highway 92, on the lower level of Building B. Guests are asked to follow posted signs directing them to the Community Care Center upon arrival.

Officials say the station is open to anyone in need of a warm, safe place to stay overnight as cold weather conditions continue across Cherokee County and surrounding parts of north metro Atlanta.

Guests may arrive at the warming station between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with departure required by 8:00 a.m. the following morning. Organizers emphasize that the shelter is intended for overnight use during cold conditions and is part of the county’s broader cold weather response plan.

“All are welcome,” officials noted in the announcement, encouraging residents to share the information with anyone who may need shelter during the cold nights ahead.

Anyone with questions or needing additional information is asked to call 770-406-6161.

Cherokee County officials urge residents to check on vulnerable neighbors, seniors, and those without reliable heat as overnight temperatures remain low through midweek.
