Chemung County, NY – A Corning woman has been arrested after allegedly issuing a $3,010 check that investigators say was backed by insufficient funds, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old McKenna M. Harris of Corning was charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D felony, and Issuing a Check with Knowledge of Insufficient Funds, a Class B misdemeanor.
Investigators said the incident began on September 24, 2025, when the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division received a complaint about a bad check that resulted in a $3,010 loss. The check was reportedly issued as payment to another individual and later cashed against the victim’s account. When the check was returned for insufficient funds, the victim suffered the loss.
Further investigation determined the account used by Harris allegedly never had funds to cover the check, according to deputies.
Harris was arrested and released on her own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
Authorities have not released additional details on the case at this time.
