Elmira, NY – Two Elmira residents were arrested following a traffic stop in Chemung County last week that deputies say led to the discovery of multiple illegal drugs, including fentanyl.

According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on December 23, 2025, when a Road Patrol deputy stopped a vehicle on South Walnut Street in the City of Elmira after observing a violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. The violation reportedly occurred in the Town of Southport.

Authorities said the vehicle was being operated by 36-year-old Katrina L. Cranmer, with 41-year-old Justin M. Dennison as a passenger. During the stop, deputies learned Dennison allegedly had an active arrest warrant and took him into custody without incident.

A second deputy arrived on scene and spoke with Cranmer, who allegedly admitted that narcotics were located inside the vehicle. Deputies then conducted a search and reportedly located crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and a large quantity of fentanyl, according to the sheriff’s office.

As a result of the investigation, Dennison and Cranmer were both arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, a Class C felony; Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a Class D felony; and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

Deputies said both individuals were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in Elmira City Court at a later date. Dennison was additionally turned over to the New York State Police in connection with the outstanding warrant.

All charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
