Big Flats, NY – An 18-year-old Southport woman was seriously injured Friday morning in a crash involving a car and a fully loaded dump truck in Chemung County.

According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 8:41 a.m. to the intersection of State Route 352 and South Corning Road in the Town of Big Flats for reports of a two-vehicle collision.

Deputies said a 2008 Chevy Malibu driven by Madilyn Kreisler, 18, of Southport, was traveling eastbound on Route 352 when she attempted a left turn onto South Corning Road. Her vehicle crossed into the path of a westbound 2017 Peterbilt dump truck, owned by Edger Enterprises, Inc. and loaded with gravel and debris. The Malibu was struck on the passenger side and pushed about 100 yards before coming to rest off the roadway.

Kreisler was extricated from her vehicle by the Big Flats Fire Department and Erway Ambulance personnel. She was first transported to Corning Guthrie Hospital and later airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital for further treatment.

The dump truck driver, identified as Rusty Sherman, 56, of Mansfield, Pennsylvania, was not injured. Authorities requested the New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, which inspected the truck and found it in compliance.

Traffic tickets are pending as the investigation continues, the Sheriff’s Office said. Multiple agencies, including the New York State Department of Transportation and Big Flats Fire Department, assisted at the scene.
