Elmira, NY – Four Chemung County residents were arrested in recent days on charges ranging from assault to drug possession, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office’s daily arrest report released Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025.

According to Sheriff William A. Schrom, Andrew R. Penfield, 38, of Elmira, was arrested Oct. 10 on an active warrant for failure to appear on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree. Penfield was arraigned in Southport Town Court and released.

Jonathan D. Vanhouten, 44, of Elmira, was taken into custody Oct. 13 on a Superior Court warrant for failure to appear on burglary in the 3rd degree charges issued Oct. 6. He remains in custody at the Chemung County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Nicholas D. Cole, 33, of Horseheads, was arrested Oct. 13 for failure to appear on a warrant tied to driving while ability impaired by drugs. Cole is also being held at the county jail pending court proceedings.

Shawn J. Boone, 23, of Elmira, was arrested Oct. 13 for assault in the 3rd degree and endangering the welfare of a child following an alleged domestic dispute in Southport. Boone was arraigned and released by Southport Town Court.

The Sheriff’s Office continues to process outstanding warrants across the county.
