Wenatchee, Washington – Mountain travel across western Chelan County is becoming increasingly treacherous as a prolonged winter storm continues to dump heavy snow through Saturday afternoon, sharply reducing visibility and making road conditions dangerous.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until Saturday afternoon for western Chelan County, including Stevens Pass, Holden Village, and Stehekin. Snow totals of 2 to 3 feet are expected across higher elevations, with Stevens Pass and areas near Holden Village seeing the greatest impacts. Stehekin is forecast to receive lighter amounts, generally between 4 and 8 inches.

Winds gusting up to 30 mph are contributing to blowing and drifting snow, especially near Stevens Pass, where visibility may drop quickly during heavier bursts. Washington State Department of Transportation officials warn that travel conditions could deteriorate rapidly, with snow-covered roads and possible temporary pass restrictions or closures.

Residents and travelers heading into the North Cascades are urged to delay non-essential travel. Those who must be on the road should carry emergency supplies including food, water, a flashlight, and extra warm clothing. Conditions may be especially hazardous overnight and during peak snowfall periods.

The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Saturday afternoon, and drivers should continue to monitor WSDOT updates as additional travel impacts remain possible.
