Chelan, WA – Authorities have released a major update in a deadly residential fire investigation that killed two people and injured another in Chelan earlier this year.
According to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, investigators have determined there is probable cause that 41-year-old Jason W. Glandon allegedly committed Murder in the First Degree and Arson in the First Degree related to the intentional ignition of an occupied home at 418 E. Woodin Avenue.
The fire occurred Wednesday, August 21, just after 5:10 a.m., when deputies and Chelan Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire. The two-story home was nearly fully engulfed upon arrival and was later declared a total loss.
Investigators determined the fire resulted in the deaths of 63-year-old Nada D. Davidson and 67-year-old Michael W. Tappe. A third victim, 55-year-old Lauri A. Kerr, suffered substantial bodily injuries.
Detectives identified Glandon as the primary suspect on Saturday, August 24, and issued a bulletin to neighboring agencies in an attempt to locate him. On Sunday, August 25, Brewster Police contacted detectives and advised that Glandon had been found deceased.
According to investigators, Glandon died from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep vein thrombosis approximately four days after the homicide. Authorities noted he had severe burns to the backs of his legs, consistent with exposure to intense heat or flame while turned away from the fire.
Following his death, detectives executed additional search warrants and conducted further interviews. Officials say the evidence continued to support the conclusion that Glandon intentionally set the fire, resulting in the deaths.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to the victims’ families and credited assistance from Chelan Fire and Rescue, the ATF, the Chelan County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Washington State Patrol.
