Chehalis, Wash. – A traffic stop in Chehalis led to drug and firearm charges after deputies discovered suspected methamphetamine and a handgun.
According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy conducted a stop Tuesday in the 100 block of Coal Creek Road after observing a driver allegedly operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
During the investigation, a K9 unit was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. Deputies obtained a search warrant and reportedly located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a firearm.
Further investigation determined the driver, a 35-year-old woman from Silver Creek, was allegedly prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction. Authorities said the firearm and narcotics were seized at the scene.
She was booked into the Lewis County Jail for investigation of unlawful possession of a firearm. Officials said she was also referred for additional charges, including possession of a controlled substance and third-degree driving while license suspended.
The case remains under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
The stop occurred along Coal Creek Road, a corridor used by local commuters traveling through Chehalis.
