Jamestown, NY – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for Chautauqua County through 1 p.m. Tuesday, with several more inches of snow expected to accumulate this morning, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Forecasters say 3 to 6 inches of additional snow are likely in the most persistent lake effect bands, particularly along the Chautauqua Ridge axis. Areas closer to Lake Erie, including the immediate lakeshore, will see little to no accumulation.

The NWS reports that snowfall rates could reach 1 inch per hour early this morning, with winds gusting up to 35 mph, producing blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility. The hazardous conditions are expected to cause difficult travel, especially along portions of Interstate 86 and State Route 60 near Jamestown and Mayville.

Drivers are urged to use caution, allow extra travel time, and prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions. The heaviest snow will gradually taper off by early afternoon as the lake effect bands weaken.
