Rome, Georgia – Heavy rain sweeping across northwest Georgia could trigger flash flooding through Saturday evening, with 2 to 4 inches of rainfall expected and isolated spots seeing even higher totals.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday for portions of north and western Georgia, including Rome, Dalton, Newnan, and areas west of Atlanta. Poor drainage zones, creeks, and low-lying areas are especially vulnerable, with rapid rises possible by late Friday night into Saturday afternoon.

Cities including Gainesville, Carrollton, and LaGrange may see roadway flooding, particularly where leaves or debris block storm drains. Drivers are urged not to cross water-covered roads. Local emergency officials are asking residents to use caution near rivers and streams, as water levels could rise suddenly.

Those in flood-prone zones should prepare now: clear drains, have a backup power source ready, and stay weather-aware through the weekend.

More alerts could follow depending on rainfall totals Saturday afternoon.
