Staunton, VA – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington has issued Winter Weather Advisories for much of western Virginia and parts of eastern West Virginia, warning of accumulating snow and hazardous travel conditions on Monday, Dec. 8, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to the NWS, total snow accumulations will range from 1 to 3 inches across Rockingham, Albemarle, and Nelson Counties, with locally higher amounts up to 4 inches possible along the Blue Ridge Mountains and higher elevations of Highland and Pendleton Counties.

Snow is expected to begin in the pre-dawn hours, intensify through the morning commute, and taper off by late afternoon. With subfreezing temperatures, snow will accumulate quickly on untreated roads, creating slick and icy conditions through the day.

Drivers along Interstate 81, U.S. 250, and Route 33 should prepare for reduced visibility and slippery roadways, especially in mountain passes. Commuters are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check Virginia 511 or West Virginia 511 for the latest road conditions.

Forecasters caution that even light accumulations could lead to hazardous travel, particularly during the morning rush.
