Charlotte, N.C. – North Carolina will enjoy several days of warm, dry weather before rain and thunderstorms return late this week, potentially slowing evening commutes and outdoor plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, Charlotte will see highs climb into the upper 80s through Tuesday, with Wednesday pushing near 90 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Winds will remain light, but humidity will begin to increase ahead of a shifting weather pattern.
Thursday brings the biggest change, with a 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms followed by a 60% chance of heavier showers and storms after dark. The unsettled conditions may linger into Friday, when more storms are expected through the evening. Rainfall could impact stretches of I-77 and I-85, as well as Charlotte Douglas International Airport operations during peak travel hours.
Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during afternoon heat and prepare for quick downpours and possible lightning by late week. Driving conditions could be slick during the Thursday and Friday evening rush.
The storm risk tapers off by Saturday, when highs will dip into the upper 70s before sunshine returns Sunday. Additional advisories may be issued if storms trend stronger.
