Charlotte, NC – Booming Neighborhoods: NoDa, Waxhaw, Mathews, Ballantyne Highlight Local Culture

Charlotte, N.C.- The Charlotte area is rapidly expanding, and so are the places to visit. With over 1,000 restaurants and shops, more than 300 parks, and two lakes just outside the city’s  limits, there is]no shortage of options for exploration. 

NoDa

Just beyond  Uptown is the artsy neighborhood of  NoDa,offering plenty for visitors to enjoy. Coffee shops include Smelly Cat Coffee House and Roastery and Summit Coffee NoDa. Shoppers can browse Curio Craft and Conjure or OldNews Vintage for unique finds.

True to its reputation for arts and culture,  the neighborhood is home to galleries  such as Charlotte Studio Artists, where visitors can view and purchase local work. Music fans can find live performances and open mic nights at The Evening Muse & Neighborhood Theater. 

Mathews

Downtown Mathews has the charm of a small town with unique shops like Mad Jack’s Records & Comics and Renfrow’s Hardware and General Merchandise. Sweet stops include The Local Scroop or Artisen Gelato. 

At the center of town is Stumptown Park, which hosts community events throughout the year, from  fairs to live music and flea markets.

Ballentyne

Ballentyne, on the city’s south side, is a fast-growing neighborhood. The area has become a microcity following the completion of The Bowl, a community hub with shops,  restaurants and an amphitheater featuring  local performers.

Ballentyne’s Backyard, once a golf course, is now a popular  park where visitors can fish in the two ponds or attend  flea markets, art shows and other community events. 

Waxhaw

Just over the Mecklenburg County line, downtown Waxhaw blends history with small-town charm. The railroad still runs through the center of town,lined with shops such as Waxhaw Antique Mart and The Shoppes at Millview. The Waxhaw Creamery is a favorite stop for dessert.

Skate boarding is also a local draw. Waxhaw Sk8 Park, located just off the main street,  offers hills and ramps for practicing tricks.
