CHARLOTTE, N.C.-As the colder months approach, stress levels can often rise. College students are preparing for finals, and the holiday season, stressful for many, is quickly approaching. Charlotte residents have the opportunity to find relief in a calm setting. Here are three cat cafes in the area.

Mac Tabby Cat Cafe:

Opened on Dec. 16, 2017, the Mac Tabby Cat Cafe was the first cat cafe in Charlotte. After expanding to a second location, the cafe partnered with Princeton’s Meow, and by Aug. 23, 2022,  had facilitated 1,000 cat adoptions.

The business now has three locations: NoDa, downtown Concord and downtown Salisbury.  Each cafe is divided into two sections: one for interacting with  cats and one to enjoy  drinks and baked goods.

Reservations are encouraged but not required. Admission to  play with cats is $12 for a 60-minute session Monday through Thursday, and $14 Friday through Sunday. Walk-ins are $8 for 30 minutes Monday through Thursday and $10 Friday through Sunday.

Whiskerville Kitty Cate Cafe:

Belmont’s first cat cafe partners with Cat Smart Coalition. This home-style cafe offers a handful of kittens to play with. Visitors are encouraged to book online, but walk-ins are welcome.

The cafe features a self-serve snack and drink area and hosts events such as pumpkin painting and crochet nights.

Admission is $13 for one hour of play. Weekday visitors must be at least 7 years old. For younger children, the cafe hosts “Kitty Kiddy Time” every other Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.

Purrfect Pair Cat Cafe:

Locked in Rockhill, this cat cafe opened May 25, 2024. It houses more than  half a dozen cats available for adoption. Admission is $15 for a 60-minute visit or $10 for 30 minutes. Reservations are not required.

The cafe offers a variety of drinks, from teas to lattes, and sells cat-themed merchandise. It also provides cat boarding for pet owners traveling out of town.
