Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of southern and western West Virginia, northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and portions of southwest Virginia, as a late-night winter system is expected to bring 1 to 5 inches of snow from 10 p.m. Thursday through 1 p.m. Friday.

The advisory includes Charleston, Huntington, Beckley, Fayetteville, Logan, and Ashland, where forecasters warn that slick and snow-covered roads could cause hazardous driving conditions, especially for the Friday morning commute.

Heavier snow bands are expected across Raleigh and Fayette counties, where localized totals may reach up to 5 inches, while surrounding areas will generally see 1 to 4 inches.

According to the NWS, “Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning commute.” Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, particularly along Interstate 64, U.S. 119, and Route 19, where travel could become difficult before sunrise.

Residents can check the latest road conditions through 511 or by visiting weather.gov/rlx for updates. Snow will gradually taper off Friday afternoon, but patchy ice may persist into the evening as temperatures remain below freezing.
