Charleston, West Virginia – West Virginia residents should prepare for a stormy weekend, with Sunday shaping up to be the wettest day as widespread showers and thunderstorms move into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the state faces daily chances for afternoon and evening storms through at least Monday. While Thursday through Saturday may bring fewer showers than recent days, heavy downpours remain possible with any storm, raising concerns for localized flooding.

Today and Friday will bring partly to mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid-80s and a 40–60% chance of scattered storms, mainly after 2 p.m. Saturday’s rain risk drops slightly (20–40%), but Sunday’s forecast ramps up, with a 60–80% chance of widespread showers and storms as a frontal system pushes through.

Residents in Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, and Beckley should monitor for changing conditions and avoid low-lying roads during downpours. Those camping or attending outdoor events this weekend should have backup shelter and avoid streams or creeks that could rise quickly.

Storm chances increase again Monday, with additional alerts likely. Stay weather-aware and check weather.gov/rlx for the latest advisories.
