Charleston, W.Va. – Residents across West Virginia should prepare for a wet overnight stretch as thunderstorms and heavy rain continue into early Saturday morning, with up to a quarter-inch of rainfall possible in parts of Kanawha and surrounding counties. Roads may be slick during the Saturday morning commute, especially in low-lying areas where standing water lingers.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, showers are likely to persist through midday Saturday before drier conditions settle in. By Saturday afternoon, winds will shift from calm to light out of the west, helping skies begin to clear. Highs on Saturday will top out near 72 degrees before dipping into the lower 50s overnight.

The real turnaround comes Sunday as sunshine dominates across the state, with highs climbing to the mid-70s in Charleston and staying mild into Sunday night. Monday through midweek looks seasonably warm and dry, with temperatures reaching the upper 70s to low 80s, making for an ideal stretch of late-summer weather.

Drivers are urged to use caution through Saturday morning, as brief downpours and isolated thunderstorms could reduce visibility. The National Weather Service will continue to monitor conditions in case additional advisories are needed.
