Charleston, West Virginia – Strong thunderstorms could disrupt travel and knock down tree limbs across much of West Virginia through the overnight hours, with the greatest threat unfolding before midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, scattered storms will continue moving across the state through early tonight, bringing the risk of damaging wind gusts and hail. The strongest storms may produce wind gusts strong enough to down trees or power lines, especially in southern and central counties including Kanawha, Cabell, and Raleigh.

Localized flooding is also a concern as repeated downpours develop over the same areas. Low-lying roads and poor drainage could quickly become impassable, particularly during heavier bursts of rain.

Cities including Huntington, Beckley, and Charleston may see rapidly changing conditions this evening, with storms weakening later into the night.

Residents are urged to stay alert for warnings, avoid flooded roadways, and secure outdoor items. While the severe threat decreases overnight, additional showers and isolated storms could redevelop by Thursday.
