Charleston, WV – Residents across West Virginia will experience a dramatic temperature swing today as a second strong cold front sweeps through the region, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
The day began mild, with morning temperatures in the low 50s, but forecasters say readings will drop sharply by afternoon and evening, settling into the 20s across lower elevations and single digits on the highest ridges.
Behind the front, winds will increase sharply, with gusts between 30 and 40 mph creating brisk wind chills in the upper 20s. Any remaining rain showers will taper off by midday, giving way to dry but much colder conditions overnight.
Thanksgiving Day will stay mainly dry, though a few mountain snow showers are possible. Winds will remain gusty, keeping wind chills unseasonably low for late November.
Officials urge residents to bundle up and take precautions against the sudden cold if traveling or attending outdoor events late today.
