Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Freeze Warning for portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, southwest Virginia, and much of central and southern West Virginia, effective from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.
Forecasters expect temperatures to drop as low as 29°F, especially across valley locations, where a hard freeze is possible. The warning includes cities such as Charleston, Huntington, Ashland, Logan, Marietta, and Pikeville, as well as rural communities in Wayne, Putnam, Mingo, and Lawrence counties.
According to the National Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation and damage unprotected plumbing. Residents are urged to bring plants indoors, cover outdoor vegetation, and wrap exposed pipes or allow them to drip slowly to prevent freezing.
The coldest temperatures are expected near sunrise, with conditions improving by midmorning Friday as temperatures rise into the 40s.
