Charleston, WV – After a few light showers today across northern West Virginia, forecasters say the region will turn dry and seasonably cool through the weekend. The National Weather Service in Charleston reports that temperatures will run slightly below normal through Friday, with a widespread frost or freeze possible late Thursday night into early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, mountain areas will dip into the 30s and 40s overnight, while lowland regions hover near the lower 50s. Breezy conditions are expected through Thursday, adding to the chill before skies clear and winds calm — ideal conditions for frost formation.
By Friday, the area should see plenty of sunshine, and temperatures will begin to rebound slightly through the weekend. Highs are forecast to reach the 50s in the mountains and low 60s in the valleys by Saturday and Sunday, with mostly dry weather continuing.
Forecasters advise residents to protect sensitive plants and outdoor items ahead of Thursday night’s freeze potential. Warmer conditions are expected to return briefly early next week.
