Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginians can expect a comfortable finish to Labor Day with sunny skies, highs in the 70s and low 80s, and a crisp, cool night ahead. Only the mountain areas face a chance of a passing shower or thunderstorm late Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the weather pattern shifts by midweek as a cold front moves through Thursday into Thursday night, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms across the state. A secondary cold front may follow next weekend, further reinforcing the cool-down.

Residents in Charleston, Huntington, and Morgantown should prepare for wet commutes and possible lightning delays Wednesday into Thursday. The Ohio Valley, including parts of eastern Kentucky and southeast Ohio, will also see an increased chance of heavy rain midweek.

By late week, drier air moves in with noticeably cooler temperatures, keeping highs below normal through next weekend. The 6–10 day outlook favors cooler-than-average weather for the middle Ohio Valley with precipitation leaning below normal, suggesting a stretch of early fall-like conditions.

Drivers are urged to allow extra time for travel during midweek storms and to monitor local updates as conditions evolve.
