Charleston, W.Va. – Clear skies and hot conditions across West Virginia Tuesday will give way to a round of unsettled weather tonight as a cold front pushes into the state. Thunderstorms are expected to develop late this evening and continue through Wednesday night, with the potential for heavy rain in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, rain chances increase sharply after midnight, with most communities from Huntington to Morgantown seeing a 40 to 60 percent chance of storms by Wednesday afternoon. The front will cut into today’s highs, which reached into the low and mid-90s in Charleston, Logan, and Huntington.

Travelers on Interstates 64, 77, and 79 should be prepared for reduced visibility and slick roads during passing storms. Power outages are also possible if gusty winds bring down trees and utility lines. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and keep phones charged in case of severe weather interruptions.

The storm threat will taper off late Wednesday night as cooler, drier air filters into the region, offering a more comfortable end to the week.
