Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday, with snow expected to impact travel across much of central and southern West Virginia and portions of southwest Virginia.
According to the advisory, total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches are forecast, with the heaviest snow likely overnight into early Monday. Temperatures near 33°F will dip into the low 20s by Monday night, creating the potential for slick and icy road conditions.
Rain will mix with snow through early Monday before transitioning to all snow by late morning. Forecasters expect a brief period of heavier snow showers between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., followed by lingering flurries into the evening. Winds will increase to 14 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, reducing visibility in higher elevations.
Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. The advisory covers multiple counties including Kanawha, Putnam, Lincoln, Boone, Raleigh, Fayette, and Roane.
Conditions are expected to gradually clear by Veterans Day on Tuesday, with sunshine returning midweek and highs near 55°F by Thursday.
