Charleston, WV – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect through late Monday night, with up to 12 inches of snow possible across parts of West Virginia, potentially impacting Interstate 64 and Interstate 77 travel corridors.

According to the US National Weather Service in Charleston, warm temperatures tonight will allow precipitation to begin as rain before transitioning to snow early Sunday morning as colder air moves into the region.

Forecasters expect snow to continue through Sunday and into Monday. Periods of moderate to heavy snowfall, particularly along the mountains, could produce widespread accumulations. Counties already in the watch area may see between 5 and 12 inches of snow, while newly added central West Virginia counties could receive 4 to 5 inches.

The Winter Storm Watch has been expanded to include Harrison, Gilmer, Calhoun, Roane, Kanawha, Boone, Logan, and Wyoming counties. The alert is now in effect from late tonight through late Monday night.

Major roadways including I-64 near Charleston and Huntington, I-77 near Beckley, and US-50 near Clarksburg could become snow-covered or slick, especially late Sunday evening into the Monday morning commute.

Snow showers are expected to gradually diminish at lower elevations Monday morning, though upslope mountain snow may continue into Monday night before tapering off.

Commuters, students, and early-shift workers across central and southern West Virginia may face delays if heavier bands develop as forecast.

Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for potential travel disruptions.
