Charleston, West Virginia – Periods of rain are expected to return to Charleston on Friday and Saturday, with locally heavy rainfall possible before colder air moves in late in the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, dry conditions will persist through Thursday under well above-normal temperatures. Rain is expected to develop on Friday and continue into Saturday as a series of systems moves through the Ohio Valley, accompanied by breezy winds.

Forecast rainfall totals in the Charleston area are generally expected to range from 1 to 2 inches through Saturday evening. While the rain will be beneficial in many areas, forecasters say isolated high water issues cannot be ruled out, particularly where heavier rainfall occurs.

Temperatures will remain mild through Saturday before a sharp change arrives Sunday. Much colder air is expected to move in, bringing gusty winds and the potential for rain and snow showers as temperatures fall back toward seasonal levels.

Residents are encouraged to monitor conditions, especially in flood-prone or low-lying areas, and prepare for a notable shift to colder, windier weather to end the weekend.
