Charleston, West Virginia – Unseasonably mild and dry weather will continue across Charleston today before rain chances increase heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, afternoon high temperatures today are expected to reach the upper 50s to near 60 degrees, well above average for early January. Dry conditions are forecast through the daytime hours, making for a pleasant Thursday across the Kanawha Valley.

Conditions begin to change on Friday as moisture returns to the region. Rain chances are expected to increase throughout the day, with probabilities ranging from 55 to 85 percent by Friday afternoon and evening. Periods of rain are expected to continue into Saturday.

While no severe weather is anticipated at this time, locally heavier rainfall cannot be ruled out in spots, which may affect travel and outdoor plans late Friday into Saturday.

Temperatures will remain mild through Saturday before cooler air arrives later in the weekend. Sunday is expected to turn noticeably cooler, with gusty winds and a chance for rain or snow showers as temperatures trend back toward seasonal norms.
