Charleston, WV – Residents across West Virginia will continue to see warm, dry conditions this week, with temperatures running well above average for mid-September. Highs in the lowlands are expected to climb into the upper 80s and near 90 degrees through Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service Charleston office, high pressure remains locked in over the region, keeping skies mostly clear and rainfall scarce. The forecast shows only limited chances for afternoon showers or thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday, mainly over the mountains.

For much of the lowlands, daytime highs will range from 80 to 90 degrees, while mountain communities will see slightly cooler readings in the 60s and 70s. Overnight lows are forecast in the mid-60s to low 70s. The warm stretch follows what meteorologists call “unseasonable warmth,” extending a weeks-long dry spell.

The NWS noted that a low-pressure system offshore could provide some beneficial rainfall for higher elevations midweek, but widespread relief remains unlikely. Residents should expect the dry trend to continue, raising concerns about soil conditions, fire danger, and water supplies if the pattern persists into late September.

Dry weather is forecast to linger into the weekend, offering plenty of sunshine but little chance of significant rain.
