Charleston, WV – Following a brief wintry mix early this morning, conditions across West Virginia will shift to a milder and wetter pattern for the remainder of the week. Forecasters say the region will see daily chances for rain through Saturday as temperatures steadily climb in both the mountains and the lowlands.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, temperatures today will range from the upper 30s to mid-40s in the mountains and the 40s to upper 50s in the lowlands. Any lingering wintry precipitation will transition fully to rain by midday. Multiple waves of moisture will then keep rain chances elevated each day.

Wednesday brings highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s in the mountains and mid-50s to low 60s elsewhere, with precipitation probabilities running between 5 and 65 percent depending on location. The highest chances appear in Beckley, Athens and Snowshoe.

Rain becomes more likely Thursday and Friday as warmer air moves into the region. Mountain highs will rise into the upper 40s and 50s, while lowland temperatures reach the upper 50s and even mid-60s. Precipitation chances climb into the 50–80 percent range across cities such as Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, Logan and Elkins.

By Saturday, unsettled weather lingers with highs in the mid-40s to 50s in the mountains and the 50s to low 60s elsewhere. Rain probabilities remain elevated, ranging from 30 to 70 percent across the region.

While widespread flooding is not anticipated, periods of steady rainfall may lead to ponding in low-lying or poorly drained areas, especially late in the week. NWS officials encourage residents to monitor updates and stay aware of changing conditions as temperatures warm and repeated rainfall systems move through.
