Charleston, WV – West Virginians can expect a stretch of warm, dry weather to continue this week, with temperatures running higher than seasonal averages, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
Forecasters said Sunday that most of the state will remain sunny and dry through midweek, with highs near or above 85 degrees in Charleston, Huntington, and Athens, Ohio. Huntington is expected to reach 91 degrees Monday and Tuesday, while Charleston and Athens hover just under 90.
According to the National Weather Service, clouds may briefly temper the heat around midweek, with the chance of a few showers in the mountain regions. Cities such as Elkins and Beckley may see slightly cooler conditions, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and a better chance of scattered showers.
The pattern is expected to warm again heading into the latter part of the work week, keeping conditions drier than normal across much of the region. The unusually warm September weather could impact outdoor workers and those with health concerns sensitive to heat.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated and check local forecasts frequently, especially in the higher elevations where showers could develop.
