Charleston, West Virginia – A soggy stretch continues across West Virginia as another round of heavy showers and storms moves in Thursday, raising the risk of localized flooding and travel delays through Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, humid conditions will persist into Thursday with widespread afternoon storms — some producing very heavy rainfall. A cold front moving through Friday will help push the moisture out, gradually bringing cooler, drier air into the region.

Lowlands from Huntington to Parkersburg may see highs climb into the low 90s Thursday before dipping into the 80s by Saturday. Mountain communities such as Elkins and Beckley will feel the difference more quickly, with temperatures falling from the mid-70s to the 60s by Friday night. Fog is also likely in valleys early Thursday and Friday mornings.

Travelers should watch for ponding on roads, especially in urban areas, and avoid flood-prone routes. Residents are urged to charge devices ahead of potential power outages and secure outdoor items.

The good news: the weekend looks much improved. Sunshine dominates Saturday and Sunday, with lower humidity and mild temperatures offering ideal conditions for outdoor plans.

Weekend outlook remains dry — next storm chances return early next week.
