Charleston, WV – Fire risks will remain elevated across West Virginia through Friday afternoon as dry air and warm temperatures combine to create conditions where fires can spread quickly.

Humidity levels will stay low through the day Friday, especially across the lowlands, increasing the risk for brush fires and uncontrolled burns. Wildfires spark could lead to rapid fire spread, particularly in wooded and rural areas where vegetation has dried out after several rain-free days.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, one more day of heightened fire danger is expected before a cold front moves through Friday night into early Saturday. That front will bring scattered rain showers, helping to reduce fire risk and briefly improve moisture levels across the region.

Temperatures Friday will climb into the mid-70s to low 80s in the lowlands, with mountain areas reaching the 60s to low 70s. Overnight conditions remain mild, with lows in the 40s and low 50s.

Rain chances increase late Friday night and continue into Saturday, with highs cooling slightly into the 60s to low 70s across lower elevations. While rainfall totals are not expected to be excessive, it will be enough to dampen dry areas and limit fire վտանգ heading into the weekend.

By Sunday, dry weather returns along with another surge of warmer air. Temperatures rebound into the 60s and 70s in the mountains and low to mid-80s across the lowlands, setting up a warm end to the weekend.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning through Friday and remain cautious with anything that could spark a fire. While conditions improve briefly this weekend, dry weather is expected to return, and additional updates may follow early next week.
