South Carolina – Beachgoers heading out today may face hidden dangers in the surf, even as sunny skies and warm temperatures draw crowds to the coast.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a moderate risk of rip currents is in effect along Georgia beaches today, with similar conditions possible along parts of the South Carolina coast. These currents can quickly pull swimmers away from shore, especially near piers and jetties.
Inland, the story is much calmer but still impactful. High temperatures are climbing into the low to mid-80s across much of the state, including Charleston, Summerville, and Walterboro. Areas farther from the coast will feel the warmest conditions, while immediate beachfront locations stay slightly cooler due to the ocean breeze.
Roads across I-26 and U.S. 17 remain dry, with no rain expected through the weekend. That makes for ideal travel conditions, but increased beach traffic is likely through the afternoon and evening hours.
Residents and visitors should stay hydrated and use sun protection, as UV levels will be elevated under mostly clear skies. If entering the water, swim near lifeguards and avoid rough surf.
The warm, dry pattern continues into Sunday with similar temperatures and continued beach hazards possible.
While the weather stays quiet inland, coastal risks remain the primary concern today.
