CHARLESTON, S.C. – Drivers along South Carolina’s coast could encounter flooding through early evening as high tide pushes water over low-lying roads and neighborhoods from Charleston to Colleton County. The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Advisory lasting until 6 p.m.

According to the NWS Charleston office, tide levels near Charleston Harbor are expected to peak between 7.1 and 7.3 feet above Mean Lower Low Water around 4:17 p.m. Saltwater inundation could begin as early as two hours before high tide and linger for two hours afterward.

Flooding is possible along coastal routes, especially in downtown Charleston, Folly Beach, Edisto Beach, and other low-lying areas. Some roads could become impassable, and minor property flooding is likely in flood-prone zones. Officials urge drivers not to travel through standing water or around barricades, as water depth and road conditions may be unpredictable.

Residents are encouraged to secure property near tidal waterways and stay alert for updated advisories if tides rise higher than expected. The flood advisory remains in effect through early Tuesday evening.
