Charleston, WV – West Virginia residents can expect several more days of mild, dry weather before colder air sweeps in late this week, bringing the potential for frost and freezing temperatures, according to the US National Weather Service Charleston.

High pressure will keep skies mostly clear through Tuesday, with highs in the 60s and 70s and overnight lows in the 40s. Patchy morning fog may develop in valleys, but afternoons will remain bright and mild.

According to forecasters, a cold front arriving Wednesday into Thursday will mark the shift toward cooler weather. After the front passes, temperatures will dip into the 30s, especially across mountain regions, setting up the likelihood of frost or even a light freeze by Thursday night into Friday morning.

While no rain is expected with this system, residents in higher elevations and rural valleys should prepare sensitive plants and outdoor equipment ahead of the colder nights.

Milder daytime highs will return to the upper 50s and 60s heading into the weekend, signaling a more typical mid-October pattern.
