Charles County, MD – Parents in Charles County are being urged to talk with their children after vaping devices containing THC were recovered from middle school students at two separate schools this week, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the first incident occurred Thursday, December 19, at Glymont Middle School. An administrator reportedly observed smoke coming from a student restroom. Following an investigation, a 13-year-old student was found to be in possession of a vaping device containing THC.

A day earlier, on Wednesday, December 18, three students at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School were found with THC-containing vaping devices in two separate incidents. In the first case, two students ages 12 and 13 were reportedly vaping in a bathroom when an administrator was alerted. A short time later, a separate 13-year-old student reported feeling unwell and notified school staff. Further investigation determined the student had allegedly been vaping moments earlier, and a THC vape was recovered.

Authorities said all four students received juvenile civil citations and will face consequences under the Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Student Code of Conduct.

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding families that vaping products can contain unknown or harmful substances, especially when obtained illegally or used by minors. Parents are encouraged to have conversations with their children about the health risks associated with vaping and THC products.

No additional students were reported injured, and school officials handled the situations internally with law enforcement assistance.
