Waldorf, MD – A Waldorf man is behind bars after allegedly attacking a woman and a child less than six hours after being released from custody on a prior domestic-related assault charge, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 12:52 a.m. on November 8 to the 4200 block of Drake Court in Waldorf for a reported assault. Officers found a woman inside with visible injuries and covered in blood. Authorities say the suspect, James Bowman III, 40, had returned to the same home where he had allegedly assaulted the woman the previous night.
According to investigators, Bowman was initially arrested on November 7 after allegedly punching the victim in the face and biting her hand. He was released from the Charles County Detention Center on personal recognizance under the condition that he not harm the woman again.
Within an hour of his release, Bowman allegedly forced his way back into the residence, where the woman was holding a toddler. Deputies say he assaulted her again and struck the child in the forehead during the attack. The woman was able to call 911 and retreat to a locked room before help arrived.
Both victims were treated by EMS. Bowman was arrested at the scene and charged with domestic-related assault and child abuse. A district court commissioner ordered him held without bond, and a judge reaffirmed that order on November 10.
