Waldorf, MD – A woman was arrested Sunday night after allegedly shooting her boyfriend during an argument inside a Waldorf apartment, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Patrol officers responded to the 6000 block of New Forest Court at about 10:10 p.m. on October 15 for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the hip. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
According to the sheriff’s office, the victim identified his girlfriend, Latasha Carmita Simmons, 48, as the shooter. Deputies found Simmons inside the apartment and took her into custody.
Investigators said the couple had been arguing when Simmons allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot the victim. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division later obtained a search warrant and recovered a firearm from the residence.
Simmons was charged with first-degree assault, use of a firearm during a felony, and second-degree assault. Detective Furr is continuing the investigation.
