Channahon, IL – A worker was trapped inside a water tower on South Youngs Road for over two hours today, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.

According to the Channahon Fire Protection District, the incident began at 11:40 a.m. when the worker became stuck more than 100 feet above the ground. Specialized rescue teams from Division 15 and Division 10, along with the Lifestar air ambulance service, were immediately called to the scene.

The rescue operation concluded successfully at 1:40 p.m., when the worker was safely lowered to the ground and transferred to an ambulance crew for evaluation. The worker is currently being assessed as a precautionary measure.

The two-hour rescue posed significant challenges due to the height and confined space of the water tower, as well as the ambient heat. Despite these difficulties, no injuries were reported among firefighters or technical rescue personnel.

Crews remain on site to clean up rescue equipment. Authorities are advising residents to continue avoiding the area until the cleanup is complete. Further updates will be provided as necessary.
