Burlington, Vermont – Snow will begin falling by mid-morning Friday, with conditions deteriorating quickly into the afternoon and threatening the evening commute across northern Vermont and northern New York.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. through 11 p.m. Friday. Total snowfall of 2 to 5 inches is expected, with the heaviest rates developing between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., when visibility may drop and roads become snow-covered.

Communities including Burlington, St. Albans, Montpelier, and Plattsburgh will see steady snowfall throughout the day. Major routes such as I-89, I-91, and I-87 could become slick, especially during peak travel hours. Road crews may struggle to keep up during heavier bursts in the afternoon.

Temperatures hovering near freezing will allow snow to accumulate efficiently, particularly on untreated surfaces. The timing of the storm increases the risk for slowdowns and minor accidents during the Friday evening commute.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time, reduce speeds, and keep headlights on in low visibility. Snow will taper off late Friday night, but additional advisories remain possible if conditions worsen.
