Springfield, Ill. – Central Illinois is closing out August with the kind of weather that has many residents reaching for sweaters in the morning before enjoying mild afternoons. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 40s through midweek, while daytime highs hold steady in the mid to upper 70s.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, temperatures tonight will fall between 47 and 52 degrees across the region, with Peoria expected to bottom out near 52, Springfield near 49, and Champaign around 48. Afternoon highs Wednesday and Friday will range from 73 to 79 degrees, offering comfortable conditions for outdoor activities.

A slight chance of light showers is possible Thursday north of I-74, though most of central Illinois will remain dry. Drivers should be prepared for patchy morning fog in rural areas, especially along low-lying stretches of I-55 and I-72.

The cooler pattern is expected to linger into the weekend, signaling a seasonal shift as meteorological summer winds down. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the pleasant stretch before warmer weather returns in early September.
