Champaign, IL – The Fourth of July parade in Champaign was canceled today due to severe weather conditions. The Champaign County Freedom Celebration made the announcement after carefully considering the safety of parade-goers and participants.
According to the Champaign County Freedom Celebration, the decision to cancel the parade was difficult but necessary due to incoming storms. “We apologize and appreciate your understanding regarding this decision. We would love to have had our Freedom Celebration parade, but Mother Nature had other plans for us,” the organization stated on social media.
Despite the cancellation of the parade, the evening festivities will proceed as planned. The evening program will feature inflatables, face painting, food trucks, the Sensory Museum, Supernova band, a touch-a-truck event, and an impressive fireworks display. The festivities are set to begin at 6:00 p.m., and local authorities encourage attendees to celebrate safely.
