Champaign, Ill. – Drivers and residents in Champaign will see a welcome break from the muggy conditions that gripped Central Illinois earlier this week, as drier and more comfortable air settles in through the weekend. A few isolated showers are possible west of Interstate 55 tonight, with another round of spotty rain and storms expected Saturday as a cold front moves through.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, humidity levels will steadily decrease into Friday, making for more pleasant conditions despite highs in the low to mid-80s. Thursday will bring partly sunny skies and slightly less humid air, followed by a mostly sunny and dry Friday.

Saturday brings the region’s best chance for storms, though coverage will remain limited. Any showers are most likely to develop along and ahead of the cold front during the afternoon. While severe weather is not expected, residents should stay alert for brief downpours and lightning.

By Sunday, cooler and less humid air returns, keeping highs closer to the upper 70s across Champaign County. The drier trend should hold into early next week, offering a stretch of comfortable late-summer weather.

Warnings are not in place, but the Weather Service notes that additional advisories could be issued Saturday depending on storm development.
