Champaign, IL – A sharp temperature drop is underway today in Champaign and across Central Illinois as a cold front sweeps through the region, ending the unusually warm stretch. Highs will fall back into the low–mid 50s beginning Sunday, and several rounds of rain are possible through midweek, according to the National Weather Service.
According to the NWS Central Illinois office, Sunday brings cooler but dry weather, with highs between 52 and 57 degrees and a very low chance of precipitation. Overnight lows will sink into the upper 20s to mid-30s across Champaign County.
Rain chances begin to ramp up late Monday. Forecasters report a 20% chance of showers during the day, with temperatures holding near 51–57 degrees. A more organized system arrives Monday night, bringing a 70% chance of rainfall and lows around the upper 30s to mid-40s.
Tuesday and Wednesday continue the unsettled trend. Central Illinois could see a 40% chance of rain Tuesday with highs between 53 and 63 degrees. Wednesday stays cool with another slight chance of isolated showers during the day, followed by a 40% chance of rain Wednesday night.
The highest likelihood of widespread rain comes Thursday, with a 70% chance of showers and highs climbing slightly into the upper 50s to mid-60s.
Residents across Champaign, Urbana, Savoy, and surrounding communities should expect fluctuating temperatures, increasing cloud cover, and periods of rain through the middle of the week. Travel impacts appear minimal, but wet roads are likely Tuesday morning and again Thursday.
