Champaign, IL – Central Illinois residents are in for a dramatic weather shift this weekend, with temperatures plunging from near 70°F today to the 30s by Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.

Friday will stay mild and partly sunny, but a strong cold front will move in Saturday, spreading steady rain from northwest to southeast through the day. Areas south of I-70 may stay mostly dry until evening.

By Sunday, highs will struggle to reach 40°F, with blustery winds and scattered flurries expected across the Champaign area. While measurable snowfall is unlikely, forecasters say flurries are possible throughout the day, especially north of I-74.

Early Monday morning wind chills could fall into the single digits, marking the coldest air of the season so far. Sunshine returns to start the week, but temperatures will stay well below average before a gradual warm-up begins Tuesday.

Drivers should prepare for wet roads Saturday and breezy, colder travel conditions Sunday and Monday.
