Springfield, Illinois – Temperatures will steadily warm into the 60s across central Illinois next week.
According to the US National Weather Service in Lincoln, aside from a few sprinkles Thursday morning into early afternoon, dry conditions are expected through Saturday. Highs Thursday will range from 45 to 50 degrees.
Friday temperatures will rise into the 50 to 56 degree range, followed by highs between 49 and 54 degrees Saturday. By Sunday, readings are forecast to reach 53 to 58 degrees, increasing further Monday into the mid- to upper-50s. Tuesday highs are expected to peak between 58 and 63 degrees.
Rain chances return late Saturday into early Sunday, with the best opportunity — between 40 and 60 percent — focused across southern portions of central Illinois. No severe weather is currently expected.
Communities including Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, Bloomington and Peoria will see a gradual moderation trend through midweek. The National Weather Service indicates temperatures will continue climbing above seasonal averages into the middle of next week.
Major corridors such as Interstate 55, Interstate 74 and US Route 51 are expected to remain largely dry through Saturday, with wet pavement possible late in the weekend as rain develops.
The warming pattern may be especially noticeable for students, young workers and commuters traveling during afternoon hours.
No watches or warnings were in effect as of Thursday morning.
